Yellow Brick Links: Gene Simmons Is A Homophobe

Posted under links by Chris Evans on Thursday 11 June 2009 at 7:59 pm

Gene Simmons thinks Adam Lambert should keep his sexuality to himself. Of course, considering how open he is about being a filthy man-whore, it seems to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Kyle Maclachlan says now that he has a new baby, he may be quitting Desperate Housewives.  Considering his character hasn’t been interesting since season four, I can’t say I’m torn up about it.

A lesbian couple with foster children was denied family discount to an Idaho pool because they’re not a “real family”. Now the pool is considering doing away with the family discount altogether to keep from getting in trouble.

Is Conan O’Brien losing viewers to David Letterman? It seems he’s not fitting in so well in his new time slot, and Jay Leno’s older viewers care more to switch over to Letterman.

gay_soldiersThe New York Times profiles the partner of a gay soldier who must keep his face hidden or face his significant other being discharged from the service.  It’s heartbreaking.

Are the leaders of gay rights organizations like HRC responsible for Obama dragging his feet on DADT? The Daily Beast’s Jason Bellini claims they are.

A Sacramento morning talk show lost nearly all of its sponsors last week after two of its three hosts went on the air and bashed transgendered people, including encouraging violence against transgendered children. They took to the airwaves today and apologized.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright says “them Jews” are to blame for Obama not speaking to him since the controversy from the election.  Wow.  Because even more anti-semitism is going to get him to give you a call.

Yellow Brick Links: Too Gay To Dance

6a00d8341c730253ef0115709eaac2970b-800wiSo You Think You Can Dance judge Nigel Lythgoe is in hot water with GLAAD after disparaging two male contestants who came in and auditioned as a pair. He claims two men dancing together and effeminate male dancers will alienate the show’s audience and make straight men feel uncomfortable about going into dance.

Young and the Restless star Chris Engen who plays Victor Newman’s son Adam is apparently trying to get out of his contract and leave the show because he’s not happy with the direction the show is taking his character.  Some say it’s because they’ve given him crappy storylines.  Others say it’s because he’s afraid of the new gay storyline involving a character named Rafe, whom he might have to kiss.

Another year, another season of MTV’s The Real World, another token gay guy.  Maybe this season will be a lot better than that snoozefest that was Real World: Brooklyn.

A sixth grade girl’s school report was curbed because it was about gay rights activist Harvey Milk.  She was told she would not be able to present her report unless the students got permission from their parents first.

A California lesbian high school student has won a $25,000 lawsuit against her school after she was harrassed by faculty for being gay and too masculine. She was forced to attend a counseling session where she was discouraged from being gay, and a staff member told her she was “ungodly” and “going to hell”.

In yet another attempt to marginalize women in our hypersexualized patriarchal society, Nikon decides to make a digital camera ad telling people it will make women look more like how straight men want them to look according to conventional standards of beauty.  Disgusting.

American Idol’s Adam Lambert may have lost the competition, but it seems Queen guitarist Brian May was impressed enough by him to want to work with him in the future.  Some are speculating they might even have Adam come on tour with them as their lead singer, as they’ve finished a four year run with Paul Rodgers as lead vocalist.

Katharine McPhee Gears Up To Re-Boot Her Career

Posted under Uncategorized by Chris Evans on Wednesday 8 April 2009 at 8:52 pm

Some of you might remember Katharine McPhee as the girl that sang a stirring rendition of “Over The Rainbow” and lost to Taylor Hicks on American Idol in 2006.  Some of might remember her as the girl that sang a cheesy mid-tempo pop tune called “Over It” and tried to channel Beyonce in her “Love Story” video.  And others might simply know her as the cute pregnant girl from that Anna Faris movie House Bunny.  But unilke many other American Idol contestants (some who’ve actually won) whose careers have fallen by the wayside, McPhee seems determined to be a star.

She and legendary songwriter/producer David Foster are working on a new album to follow up her barely successful debut album (which I moderately enjoyed), she’s guest-starring on an episode of CSI: New York that airs tonight, she’s slated to star in a film called Storyteller with Jesse Spencer from House and right now she’s filming a romantic comedy with Dave Annable of Brothers & Sisters.

In the movie, Katharine plays the daughter of a Croatian mobster (‘Borat’ star Ken Davitian) who tries to obtain U.S. citizenship by setting her up with an American photographer (Dave Annable of ‘Brothers & Sisters’). Of course, the pair begin to fall in love, much to the chagrin of her father. Mena Suvari and Vinnie Jones also star in the comedy, written and directed by Rob Hedden. The film is produced by Hawaii Film Partners.

While promoting her first album, she took a stab at trying to embrace her gay fans, but unfortunately was unable to make it to the Campus Thursdays event at New York’s Splash Bar. She sent the guys a video message apologizing for not being able to show up.

The movie comes out sometime next year. But considering how quickly people forget stars these days, I hope she manages to be able to keep the public’s attention until then.

Here’s an Entertainment Tonight feature about the movie. I’m a sucker for a good romantic comedy (though I can’t remember the last one that was actually good.).

Bill O’Reilly On Adam Lambert’s “Embarrassing Pictures”

Posted under Uncategorized by Chris Evans on Wednesday 8 April 2009 at 7:26 pm

Bill O’Reilly decided to do a segment on flashy American Idol contest Adam Lambert, who many people have speculated may be gay, corroborated by some photos that popped up of him a while ago that featured him kissing other guys.

First of all, I’m not sure why he calls them “embarrassing pictures”…if they were photos of him making out with random girls, would it be embarrassing?  Secondly, the fact that he was photographed kissing men doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s gay, and even if it did, it’s not as if he’s making out with men on the American Idol stage, so what difference would it make to voters?

I mean, I stopped watching American Idol when Taylor Hicks beat Katharine McPhee, but I have seen a few random clips of this dude singing, and he seems to be quite good.  His sexual orientation should be irrelevant, and given the very young fanbase of American Idol, I’m willing to bet at the end of the day it will be.
